Finite element analysis is one of the important tools for new wheel development tools, which can check the strength of the wheel, optimize wheel design and then confirm the functions of new wheels under the regular railway operation. Finite element analysis can improve the efficiency and reduce the cost in the new wheel product development.


     At present, there are three standards of wheel strength calculation: the International Union of Railways UIC 510-5 "Whole Wheel technical approval", EU standard EN 13979-1 "Railway applications - Wheelsets and bogies - Wheels - Technical approval procedure - part 1: rolling and casting wheels”, and North American Railway Society AAR S 660-2007 standards " Evaluation method for design analysis of locomotive and Wagon wheel ".
